Classroom Material Downloader

Privacy policy

Information the app accesses

With your permission, the Windows desktop app accesses your Google account identifier and email, your course list, and materials, assignments and announcements in selected Google Classroom courses. It reads post and attachment information to identify downloadable materials. It requests read-only Google Drive access to download attachments and export supported Google documents. That permission covers files accessible to your Google account; the app retrieves attachments identified in your selected courses.

How information is used

Information is used to identify connected accounts, display courses, download materials, detect updates, organize files and report sync errors. The app does not create Classroom posts, submit work or change grades. It does not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.

Storage and protection

Downloaded materials are saved in folders you choose. Account configuration, course mappings, post titles, attachment identifiers, file paths, hashes, classification results and diagnostic logs are stored in the local app profile. Announcement text is not exported as material files. Saved Google access and refresh credentials are protected using Windows Data Protection API for the Windows user account. Local materials and logs are not separately encrypted by the app; protect your Windows account and computer accordingly.

Optional AI classification

If you enable AI, selected document excerpts, file and course context, and sometimes rendered page images are passed to Ollama on your own computer to suggest a category. The intended setup uses a locally running model. The app does not send this content to a developer-operated AI service. A cloud-backed model or other third-party configuration you choose may have its own data handling; use a local model to keep inference on your PC. Classification results may be cached locally.

Sharing and network connections

The app communicates with Google for sign-in, authorized API requests and file downloads. Optional model inference uses the local Ollama endpoint. The developer does not operate a server that receives your account tokens, course content or downloaded materials. If you choose to send diagnostic information to support, review it for personal information first. Your own cloud-backup or folder-sync tools may copy files according to their settings.

Retention, disconnecting and deletion

Disconnecting an account removes its saved connection from the app. You can also revoke access in your Google Account connections. Downloaded materials are kept until you delete them. Historical metadata, logs and classification caches may remain in the local profile after disconnecting. To remove all local app data, close the app, revoke its Google access, and delete its profile and any materials you no longer want. The standard profile is under %LOCALAPPDATA%\ClassroomMaterialDownloader; custom installations may use another location. Uninstalling can preserve this data for reinstallation.

Google API Limited Use

Classroom Material Downloader's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
